English: Rice paddy in Yuanyang, China. "Expansive areas of these terraced fields support enough rice for hundreds of thousands of people. Water is saved in the hilltop forests, and channelled down to the terraces for irrigation. The rice terraces are flooded from September to March, the evaporation from these paddies provides a cool and pleasant climate for local residents while the fields provide a spectacular view for travellers."
