Hello everyone! My name is Sannita, and I’m the Community Relations Specialist for the Structured Data Across Wikimedia project.

We are looking for potential new communities that want to test our new feature for reviewing image suggestions for articles, called Image Suggestions. The feature will be available only for users that have more than 500 edits.

Our goal is to present experienced contributors with weekly notifications (no more than two every week), in order for people to review them and eventually add potentially relevant images in articles that the users have in their watchlist. Contributors can choose to edit via Wikitext or Visual Editor, and can review the image and the article information in the notification. How the feature currently works is explained more in detail on MediaWiki.

The feature has already been tested on Portuguese, Russian, and Indonesian Wikipedias with good results: in the two months in which we tested our feature, 501 images have been added by experienced users to Wikipedia articles with a 0% revert rate.

What do you think about this? Do you think it would be a good idea to introduce it in your community? Do you think it would be a nice addition to your workflow?

Suposo que mal no ens en pot fer. Ara bé, segons la pàgina del projecte el que fan és:

1. Look at the Wikidata item for the article.
   1. If it has Imatge (P18), suggest that image.
   2. If it has Categoria de Commons (P373), suggest an image from the category.
2. Look at the articles about the same topic in other language Wikipedias. Suggest a lead image from those articles
3. Search MediaSearch on Commons for the title of the article, which combines traditional text-based search with structured data from Commons and Wikidata. If an image ranks high enough in the results, suggest that image.

Això pot ser útil en viquipèdies amb infotaules deslligades de Wikidata, però aquí agafar la Imatge (P18) i mostrar-la a la imatge ja ho fa la infotaula (i la immensa majoria d'articles tenen infotaula). Les altres coses pel que haurien de servir és sobretot per suggerir un valor pel Imatge (P18) a Wikidata (i un cop fet això ja la veuríem a la Viquipèdia) més que per suggerir imatges a la Viquipèdia.

D'acord, @Pere prlpz

Pel que fa al suggeriment de P18 està clar que a nosaltres no ens interessa gaire pel que dius de les infotaules, però totes les altres funcions de suggeriment sí que poden ser útils a l'hora d'escriure un article a VP (si vols afegir més imatges que les que mostra la infotaula). No només crec que no pot fer mal, sinó que pot ser útil, perquè podríem usar 3 de 4 funcions de les que dóna.

Hi all, thanks a lot for your interventions. Given the positive reactions in this thread, I can say there is some consensus about you joining the testing of Image suggestions. If you agree, the deployment of this new feature will happen in early November.

We need some help from you in translating the interface of the tool in your language. You can do so by editing the relevant messages on Translatewiki. I will take care in the next days of setting up a project page for this, that will work as a hub for feedback.

Just to be sure you understood our comments:

• Do we agree that it is irrelevant about P18 suggestions, because we have 85% of all articles getting information from WD, not only P18, but also Vista nocturna (P3451), Vista hivernal (P5252), Imatge de l'interior (P5775), Imatge entrada (P9721), Vista aèria (P8592) when applied.
• For the rest of funcionalities, we agree that "It won't be disruptive", so, when we have it installed we will evaluate its positive impact.

Hey @Amadalvarez, thanks for your message.

I wanted to clarify that the tool will suggest images for unillustrated articles, so articles that already call an image from Wikidata will be excluded from suggestions. As for the rest, we hope our tool will help Catalan Wikipedia to illustrate the remaining 15% of articles.

Hi, @Sannita (WMF) I received two suggestions. One ok and incorporated (Víctima), and the other, doesn't match with the concept (Fogatge)

Hello all, the tool will be deployed today to this Wikipedia, and notification will be sent from Wednesday on.

I have also prepared a project page for the tool, so that we can have a proper page to collect feedback, but I need your help on two things:

1. at which title should I move the page? I don't know what is the proper place on your project and I don't want to mess it up
2. can you help me translating the page into Catalan?

Hi @Sannita (WMF) I don't know where would be the best place to put your page, maybe @Paucabot would have an answer.

I don't have time now to translate your page, but I'll try to have a go in the near future.

BTW, I already had a suggestion for an image to an unillustrated article, and it was right :-)

I would move the page to Viquipèdia:Dades estructurades or Viquipèdia:Structured Data Across Wikimedia, for example.
